About Fred Meyer Jewelers:
When I was a teenager, it was completely appropriate (and kind of expected) that the boy who was courting you, buys you a piece of jewelry. It didn't have to be expensive, but rather a token of his sincere intentions. In fact, I had some girlfriends whose moms expected that the guy present a cute ring or an ankle bracelet to show his devotion. (I guess this was a transparent way that the mom could think their girl was being "honored".) Regardless, in retrospect, it seems kind of silly because teen boys can't afford jewelry. They would have to work and save; that would take away from their goal towards buying a car or paying for the gas in the car they owned. And now thinking about adults, unless it's a super-special occasion or you're rich, it seems unfair to ask a man to adorn a woman with expensive jewelry. If you are planning to marry or you are married, then that's a different story.
Going to the diamond district in NY or LA is a great way to get a "deal" on quality jewels. Mall stores are silly. You are spending way too much. Online there are a couple of sites that may meet your standards. I like FredMeyerJewelers.com because they understand what common folk can afford. On their site, there are beautiful earrings with precious stones at extremely reasonable prices. They offer great additional info on any stones and jewels; only bummer that they can't deliver the finest for the least.
