I never know what to get people for their birthday or holidays, etc. I would love to be a great gift-giver, but I don't have the money to spend on personalized items. I hate giving gift cards. I know people love getting them, but I think it's silly. "You give me a $20 Starbuck's card for my birthday and I'll give you a $20 Coffee Bean card for Christmas." I don't see that as thoughtful. I mean it's generous, but it doesn't have a unique flair. Call me crazy (or a narcissist), but I prefer that my gifts stand out amongst the rest. I'd like them to be remembered and hopefully, get quality use.
So this brings me to my newest way of shopping. I decided that I would try and find some "useful", yet not too practical items that can be given as gifts. I like the "wow" factor even when I can't afford it. I have been going on sites that offer great items at wholesale prices; the only catch is you have to buy as if you were a wholesaler. But this is easy if they only force you to buy a small minimum amount. For example, there were these awesome chocolate candles. I had to buy 24 to get a good deal, but it was a steal! I gave my family such a cool gift and I think it turned out to be like $2.00 a piece! Too bad they don't have an actual store, but I guess online works.
