I can't believe my parents have been married for as long as they have. I mean that in a good way. It's just tough to wrap my brain around the idea that two people can have a relationship like that for 40 years. Fortunately, they still like each other. I'm not saying they do the same things together, because they don't. My dad is a huge golfer and I don't think my mom has ever stepped on a course. Conversely, my mom loves the opera and ballet, and my dad stopped going many years ago. She'd rather go with a friend who has a mutual love for the arts rather than sitting next to my dad who usually falls asleep in a theater. I want to throw a party for their anniversary this year. They have lots of friends, so I imagine it will be a bigger event. The only caveat is that I have a small house and a smaller budget. I was thinking of having it at their neighbor friend's house in the backyard. I could ask the guests to bring a small dish or a dessert.
