About St John Knits:
When I visited London a few years ago, I remember thinking how differently things are done there. Being from America, I assumed there would be a lot of similarities. After all, it was the British declaring their independence who first came over to this country. I suppose back in the 1600s a lot of the English customs and the language accent still survived. Probably the influx of people from all over the world has given America its own sense of culture (or lack thereof.) I just recall, when I was in London on holiday that, in general, people dressed quite differently. There was a sector of folks who were fabulously dressed in vibrant, avant-garde fashion. Then there were the more chic, conservative dressers. It reminded me a lot of the high-end posh crowd in New York-not the jetsetters, but the old money establishment-the type of people who organize fundraisers for the Museum of Modern Art. Some people can wear that style and appear smart and wealthy. Then, there is me. If I put on a cardigan, I look frumpy. A site like StJohnKnits.com touts clothing you might see on a conservative, upper crust or someone in royalty. For example, there's a knit cape on their website. It is fantastic. If I spent the almost $1,000 to buy it, I wouldn't wear it. I just know that I couldn't pull it off. I'd look silly. If that's your clothing statement and you can afford it, then all the power to you.
