About Bluemercury:
Most girls look to their moms for beauty advice. I'm not saying my mother isn't beautiful, because she really is. And I'm not saying that she wouldn't give me advice, because she would. I guess what I'm saying is (and please don't take this wrong), I really don't want her opinion on beauty products.
First of all, she is very frugal. I know I don't have to spend a fortune to get decent items, but sometimes you get what you pay for. The other thing is she has no idea how to wear different color make-up. I think I've seen the same powder, blush, and mascara over the past 30+ years. I want to look contemporary, yet not like a clown.
This is why I visit several different websites, one of them being BlueMercury.com. Marla Malcolm Beck and her husband started this company 15 years ago. I've only been going to it for about five, but she often has a blog online where she posts photos and short descriptions of some of her favorite old and new products. I love it; I get great ideas and I don't feel over-sold. There's make-up, cologne, sunscreen, cute shirts, recipe books, and a bunch of fun "feel good/look good" stuff.
The thing about the site is that the products are quality. That accounts for some of the higher prices. I expect to pay more for face creams and the like. But I think their lipsticks, for example, are too spendy for my budget.
